The end of first quarter will be this Friday! Grades will be in the computer by next week, but grade cards will not go home until parent/teacher conferences. Be looking for a reminder slip to come home with your child soon to confirm the conference date you signed up for at Meet the Teacher. :)

Reminders:

THANK YOU to Mrs. Henderson (Ezra’s mom) for volunteering to be our homeroom mother this year. Look for a letter to come home soon with information regarding our fall party.

Tuesday- (I will be away at meetings)

~Your child will start working on a study guide for their first quarter language test. This covers everything we have learned so far for grammar. Your child has notes in their grammar journal that they should be reviewing before the test on Friday. The substitute will be going over the study guide on Wednesday to allow for any corrections. Please encourage your child to study the study guide. If your child brings a signed study guide noting that the student did study, extra credit will be given toward the test.

~Read-A-Thon forms and pledges are due TODAY

Wednesday (I will be away at meetings). Students will go over the study guide for the language test with the substitute. They will take their spelling pre-test today.

Thursday-Language check for the week over plural nouns. They will be allowed to use their grammar journals to complete this week’s language check.

Friday- book orders are due today and today is a HALF DAY of school.

Language test (don’t forget to sign the study guide if your child studied)

Continue to send in Labels from SUNNY D. We are ALMOST there! Just 8 more labels and we can send in for free books for the kids!

Box tops- WoW! Last month was an awesome month for box top collections at Willard North! keep up the good work. Clip those box tops and send them in. Our class would LOVE to win the box top reward party from PTO!

Campbell’s soup labels- PTO will be collecting Campbell’s labels from now on. The rewards from these labels will help to purchase playground equipment (basketballs etc).

Whoa! Has it been two weeks already?

I can’t believe we have already completed two weeks of school- but what a great first two weeks it has been! We definitely have hit the ground running in fourth grade and are keeping busy with lots of new things. We began our unit on factors and multiples in math and have been practicing our multiplication facts. The students are seeing how important it is to be fluent with those basic facts and are working hard to practice them. We will be starting a program next week called Rocket Math school-wide that will allow students to practice their operations. In fourth grade we start with multiplication and move to division. Encourage your child to practice, practice, practice!
In writing we started blogging! Your child brought home a note with a username and password. I encourage you to ask your child about their blog and let them show you what they are working on. I have enjoyed reading and responding to their book response blog assignment!
September has officially begun, which means your child can start filling out that reading calendar in their Tiger Binder. I have challenged the kids to try to read 30 minutes a night- five nights out of the week, however only 100 minutes a week is required. Reading for extended periods of time is HUGE for this age group. It helps to be more fluent and accurate readers and it is building the skills necessary to take on the higher level tasks they will be facing in the years to come Students should be reading a mix of both fiction as well as non-fiction. They have an orange laminated copy of comprehension questions in their tiger binder that they can use to check their comprehension at home.
Thank you for the wish list items that have come in! It is very much appreciated and will greatly help out the class.
Just a few reminders
-book orders are due on Friday
-no school on Monday (Labor Day)
-your child may bring a snack with them to eat in the afternoon.
-please watch your child’s mail for negative lunch balance forms. If the amount is greater than 10 dollars owed, your child will be given a commodity lunch. This is a new district policy- the note was with your meet the teacher night packet.

If you have any questions, concerns, or even just want to tell me something great about your child- don’t hesitate to contact me. Shayes@Willard.k12.mo.us 742-2597 (ext 134)
